Court orders IGP to increase security to Mano

February 14th, 2008

Court of Appeal today gave an interim order to increase Western Peoples Front Leader Mano Ganesan’s security to eight personnel with a security back-up vehicle. Security of Mano Ganesan MP was cut down by the government along with those of late parliamentarian T. Maheswaran and SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem MP immediately after the budget voting in the parliament. Mano Ganesan is the Convener of Civil Monitoring Commission which is very critical of the government’s human rights record. Ms. Hina Jillani, special representative of the UN secretary general for the defense of the human rights defenders had expressed her deep concern over the reduction of security to Mano Ganesan and had said in her letter to the government that ‘She is concerned for the life and security of Mr. Ganesan, which is more at risk without adequate security. The security reduction to Ganesan is linked to his high profile work against human rights violations and may be an attempt to curtail his HR work”.

Ganesan won the runner up award for his human rights campaign from the US department of state. Secretary of state Condeliza Rice made the relevant announcement in last December on the international human rights day December 10th. However Sri Lankan defense ministry headed by Gotabaya Rajapakse, himself a US citizen, reduced Ganesan’s security on December 18th.

Judges Sri Bhawan and Rohini Perera ordered the IGP to increase security as an interim measure and postponed further hearings for 3rd March.

Nothing can change the murderous programs carried on by paramilitaries with the blessings of the goverment. A security guard can do the killing. Witnesses will be intimidated so no one can identify the culprit. The murder can be in daylight in a public place. The blame can be shifted to LTTE. The security guard will “confess” that he is in fact an LTTE cadre infiltrating the government “Intelligence Service”.

There is no point getting a court order. If the goverment paramilitaries want to kill him they will use his own security guard and later extract a “confession” from the killer that he is an “LTTE agent”

My hats off to real leaders like Mano Ganeshan who works for peace. He was elected by the people of Colombo. He has been without fear and tirelessly serving not only his voters but also any distressed and ordinary person who seeks help from any part of the Island. That is why he is respected and recognised for his HR activities by International Organisations.

When an elected person who does not carry another country citizenship or passport was threatened by people in power who have another country passport/green card or citizenship, you call them a democracy ! He wisely stayed away from the south of the Island and returned when the courts gave a favourable decision to his fellow citizen Rauf Hakeem.

Now a days they do not go after the minority population in a collective scale but go after their leaders. 1956, 1977, 1983 the minority population has to go back to their homelands to save their lives.

Once Mahindha Gotha ( dual citizen ), Fonselka ( dual citizen )and their so-called liberation war or the state terrorism triumphs, the minorities in the south seeking safe places will recurr. But these minorities may not have NE to go back because it will be an occupied territories by the Sinhalese army under quislings and petains.

The industrialists & investors from India, Japan & ICs in partnership with sinhala leaders will be after cheap land and cheap labour from these second class minorities.

Will more Mano Ganeshans emerge at least now from the majority community from Srilanka before Gothabaya and Fonseka rejoice their victories before George Bush Leagcy ends this year and before SL goes another 60 years back in its so called democracy?

Ranasinghe’s analogy is as poor as his callous remarks about
an MP whose life remains threatened. Mano Ganesan may not particularly like the thought of being a dead hero and he will
recall the State was unwlling, incapable or at worst collusive
in the events leading to the deaths of young Tamil MPs Raviraj and Mahesawaran. No less Kumar Ponnambalam as well. The memories of these two young assertive Tamil MPs will fade away soon, as those dark forces that plan these anti-Tamil conspiracies plan. Ranasinghe may also remind himself that Ganesan’s movement has also helped many Sinhalese abducted or about to be abducted.

    What’s the point?

The Justice System and the Police are goons of the govt.

Gothabhaya will be laughing out loud and will be plotting another MSD sleuth to do the deed in a Temple or Church.
Mano and other Tamil Leaders who do not bend down before Rajapakshe clan are as good as dead.
Why do you think CWC went back after being humiliated bybasil rajapakshe as “Para Dhemulu”??
Why do you think UPF leader still in GOVT although they were elected by UNP + votes?

Futile exercise given the modus operandi - the latest perfection of the art. Judiciary can only do its best.

The Sri Lankan government is once again forced to protect those that who would want to do us harm…

Mano Ganeshan wants the UN into Sri Lanka to basically protect the Tigers from Annihilation, not for protection of Tamils who are casualties of War and Human Rights abuses….

We never heard a PEEP out of him against the LTTE when they were doing the Extortion and Killings, only when Ex-LTTE Paramilitaries who start doing what they knew how to do best when they were in the LTTE again then this Joker Starts Singing to the IC…

The Tamil Double Standard once again….

There is a commentator who always calls the other commentators names, which is not right. But his comments are allowed by the administrator. This perticular commentator thinks that he is always right and that others are fools and jokers.(in his opinion)

It would be in the interest of the administrator to censor comments like this, so that this column does not deteriorate to the standard of others!(I refrain from naming them)

*** It would be in the interest of the administrator to censor comments like this, ***

Really!? Who is this elusive person Nadesena?! I say we should petition DBS to Ban him so that we can go back to “HEE-HAWING” LTTE Talking Points, and engaging in Self-Congratulatory Fellatio.
