In Pictures: Funeral of Thiruvengadam Veluppillai
Mr. Thiruvengadam Veluppillai, the octogenarian Dad who passed away in Sri Lankan military custody in Panagoda was cremated in his home town Valvettithurai, today January 10, 2010.
The funeral last rites were lead by Dr. S. Mayilerum Perumal, Chief Medical Officer of the Vadamaratchy region.
Thol. Thirumavalvan, the leader of Viduthalai Chiruththaikal from Tamil Nadu and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Sivajilingam paid their last tribute at the cremation grounds.
Several people from all across Jaffna peninsula attended the funeral and paid their last tribute.
TNA parliamentarians including Mavai Senathirajah, Suresh Premachandran, Pathmini Sithamparanathan, Selvam Adaikalanathan, Vinotharalingam, Sivasakthi Anandan led by TNA parliamentary group leader R. Sampanthan paid their last respects to Mr. Thiruvengadam Veluppillai on Sataurday. Mr. Fareed, representing Dr Wickramabahu Karunaratne also paid homage.
The funeral pyre was lit by Rama Sabaratnam, a nephew of Thiruvengadam Veluppillai.
