and as a tax payer in both countries I beleive British politicions are million times better and not corrupt as most SriLankan substandard politicions

I pitty the thin poor villages of that beautiful Island who suffer and pay indirect taxes which are misused by politicions & thier relatives in Sri Lanka.

It would be interesting if someone can highlight this misuse of public funds in Sri Lanka as I understand a politicion is entitled to get a public pension after serving for five years as aginst any goverment employee has to work for at least 25 years. Nobody seems to read the texts of the speeches by the Secretary of State (or that of the shadow Secretary). They are nearly the same and they are for fundamental rights of ALL people. They haven't SAID that they would support separation and they will never say that or support it. But they want EVERYONE to have basic human rights. there are many comments that tamils are separatists. if you go by history, sri lanka in 1598 never existed as a single nation. there were 2 separate kingdoms, one for the tamils in north and east and the other for sinhalese in the central ( kandy),south and western part. these 2 kingdoms signed treaties with portugal to become under its control.

it is the tamil leaders based mainly in colombo who forgot this past treaties and agreed with britain to live in a unitary state of ceylon and later sri lanka. may be they thought a small state of tamil eelam wont be economically viable. these views were changed after successive state sponsored pogroms against them. it is the successive sri lankan govts that forced the tamils to seek a separate and independent state to ensure their security and that of their future generations. besides, they have seen that even small states can be economically viable and successful such as israel and singapore.

so, the sinhala people who call tamils as separatists are clearly wrong. it is the violence and pogroms that made the tamils separatists. it was the same with jews who were subjected to pogroms after pogroms in europe that culminated in the holocaust that forced them to recreate their ancient state of israel after 2000 years.
everybody has a right to life , liberty and happiness. it is the majority sinhalese disrespect for the lives of tamils that forced the issue of separatism. in the process, many sinhalese also lost their lives and liberty. so it is grossly unfair of the sinhalese community to put all the blame on the tamils. besides, the sinhala people shud take a look at countries like south korea, singapore, malaysia, thailand, taiwan which have achieved tremendous progress because they practised sound politics and the people of these nations worked hard to ensure their success and progress. surely, sinhala people are like any other people in the world who are capable of bringing tremendous progress to their country. but unfortunately, they let themselves to be conned by their leaders and the result was the rise of rebels like LTTE.

the LTTE didnt enjoy any support from foreign nations after the assasination of rajiv gandhi. even in this matter the tamils were unfortunate. what would have happened if the sinhala naval rating at the guard of honor in 1987 had succeeded in smashing the head of rajiv gandhi and killed him in the process.

many travel journals describe sri lanka as a paradise for tourists with its fine beaches and other attractions.

surely, sri lanka could have even beaten singapore in its success. the singapore stateman Mr. Lee Kuan Yew decribed colombo as much more developed than singapore in 1956 when he visited sri lanka.

the success of singapore was due to the wisdom of their leaders. when malaysia expelled singapore from the federation of malaysia in august 1965 ( after being merged with malaysia from sept 1963), the malaysian leaders thought that singapore will not succeed and will crawl back to malaysia. but we know from history that didnt happen. infact the success of singapore provided malaysia and other south east asian nations an impetus to compete.

LTTE didnt exist in 1948. prabhakaran was born only in 1954. the LTTE was created in the mid 1970s. it is a product of the bad politics and ill treatment of tamils by the security forces of sri lanka. so blaming LTTE wont work. almost all countries will not believe you when you blame the LTTE. may be countries like iran, north korea, or myanmar will believe you. but even the regimes of these nations are on their last legs.
