Dear Apsara, If General SF, your dad in this case, have committed an offense, there are laws in the country to deal with, whether military or civil. The difference here is that he was not only a military officer but was the a member of the security council and was in a position to know most of the state secrets of SL, no different to any other state in the world. If the same was said by the US commander about the CIA activities he would have been arrested immediately. Had your dad won, the situation would have been even worse. The fact that he chose Colombo as his election battle ground knowing very well that is a place which used to be, and still is, brings into question of his loyalty and political acumen.

The fact is that the JVP whose popularity is sinking is now holding onto the SF straw to swim and get a few votes riding on his sympathy votes and save face. SF would have won a seat on the sympathy issue had he even contested Batticaloa. Unfortunately that was not to be. He could not display political wisdom in this area and makes one wonders whether he would have been a worst kind of ruler in comparison to MR.

What the ruling faction is doing is unforgivable violating all norms of law and justice. They now have the tiger by the tail. If they convict him, they are doomed, if they release him they are doomed. Eventually they will drag on and release him after the election...but at what cost?

Unfortunately, during those times, even you were silent. Innocent civilians were killed and maimed last year, journalists and activists met the same fate.
Stories about your father and his evils ways are legendary, yet this method of silencing him is unjust.
I sincerely hope that you and everyone else who refused to recognize the erosion of democracy and justice in Sri Lanka, have seen the true nature of things now.

That is what happening now. When Tamils were picked up and killed we did not say anything. Now our own sinhalese people are picked up for trial (at least not for killing), now we see the danger closer to home.

This is what Lasantha exactly said when the Tamil people were kidnapped and killed by the White van operations. At that time, we did not care, because it was only Tamils got killed. Not only that we also got rid off Lasantha for talking too much on behalf of Tamils.

I for one wrote on this forums when Lasantha was murdered that the Tigers have already won the war (well before May 2009) by changing the SL social /political fabric forever. These learned tactics will never going to go away. These are tools in any one's tool box to get the job done their way.

I even collected money and did propaganda for him at the presidential election.This was because the impression given was that the campaign was depleted of money. we, who were public servants paid a measely salary did this for your father because we thought he was not corrupt.

But now we realise that he had got miiions of Us dollars which he has pocketted. Explain this money!
